Over a century ago…
Cramer was founded in 1918 by brothers Chuck and Frank Cramer, who began by selling a homemade athletic liniment created in their mother’s kitchen. Their passion for helping athletes recover and perform at their best led to the establishment of Cramer Chemical Co., playing a key role in pioneering the field of sports medicine.
Their influence extended beyond products—through innovation, education, and dedicated support for athletic trainers, they contributed to the founding of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), shaping the profession as we know it today.

OUR STORY
Active Ankle had its start in an athletic training room of a Southern Indiana high school as part of a college class project by a student teacher of Glen Snow’s, the athletic trainer at the time. The first semi-rigid hinged ankle support was conceived using parts of a McDonald’s food tray along with various materials found in a standard athletic training room.
Recognized as a unique product idea, a local businessman helped launch what is known today as Active Ankle Systems, Inc. in 1989. The company has become a worldwide leader in the development of high value, high function foot and ankle products and owns or has rights to over 20 U.S. and Foreign Patents.
OUR Mission
In 2008, Cramer Products, who manufactures and markets more than 500 products used internationally by athletic trainers worldwide, acquired Active Ankle. Almost 100 years old, Cramer is recognized as the creator of the entire industry of sports medicine.
